Message your Secret Santa anonymously

· 1 min read

After the draw, every person in a Humbugg exchange has two private conversations. One with the person they drew. One with whoever drew them. Humbugg never says who is typing.

Two conversations each

The giver’s chat shows the recipient’s name, because the giver already knows it. The recipient’s chat shows only “Your Secret Santa”. Both arrive live, and an optional email tells you a message is waiting without saying who it is from.

Two anonymous chats. In one, Priya asks Rosa Delgado, the person she drew, whether the cat is allergic to anything. In the other, Priya’s own Secret Santa, shown only as “Your Secret Santa”, asks what size she wears.
Priya asking the person she drew, and her own Secret Santa asking her.

What people ask

  • What size are you, really?
  • Do you already own this book?
  • Any allergies I should know about?
  • Coffee, tea, or neither?
  • Is the address on your list still right?

And the recipient can answer, or ask something back, such as “please, nothing with glitter”.

Staying a secret

Humbugg never shows your name to the person you drew. It records which side of the conversation wrote each message and works out who the giver is from the draw each time, so there is no stored record pairing your name with theirs.

What you write is still up to you. A message that mentions your dog by name will give you away faster than any disguise could.

Turning it off

If you would rather not be asked anything about your gift, switch off anonymous questions in the exchange. That closes both directions for your gift.

Good to know

Humbugg never says who is typing. Your recipient sees “Your Secret Santa” and never your name. What you write is up to you.
